Finally! Ukrainian F16 planes are is service. Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented them on the Air Force Day. Truly a historic moment which was ‘impossible for a long time’. And Ukrainian resilience and courage made it possible!

I cannot express how happy I am, especially since I am currently in Ukraine. Dutch friends, if you just wanted me to come to Ukraine to deliver F-16s, you could have just asked. 😅
President Zelenskyy emphasized that the current number of F-16 jets and trained pilots is still insufficient. Ukraine is expecting additional fighters from partner countries, and our pilots and engineers continue to undergo the necessary training and exercises.

F-16 drivers and crews are being recruited by the International Legion to fly in Ukraine Armed Forces.
Reminds me of the famed Flying Tigers- volunteers who flew under Chennault in China against the Japanese before Pearl Harbor. Or the brave American pilots who flew with the RAF in the Battle of Britain, also before Pearl Harbor.
With 69 F-16s pledged to Ukraine from European countries this is a much faster way to get them up and flying fast. It just takes too long to train so many Ukrainian pilots and to get them experience in the F-16.
These Ukrainian and foreign pilots are needed asap to save Ukraine and Europe.
Ukraine needs around 200 F-16s to fully master air superiority. Europe has enough F-16s to give to reach this number. But then they need qualified pilots and crews.
The only way to get there fast is to lookget foreign pilots and crews to augment the Ukrainians already flying.
This message needs to get out to the F-16 pilot community asap. Please spread the word.

Which International Legion can provide so many planes? Did I miss something?
I know only what Dan Rice and the other guy said; it’s all new to me. As you saw from my wiki link, very large numbers of volunteers came to help the RAF in 1940. Ukraine needs only a fraction of that, so they should get them.
As for the planes themselves, 200 could be found even without American help.
Gripens and Mirages are supposed to be coming too.
I’m a glass half empty guy myself, but I have a feeling that Ukraine will eventually get their 200 warplanes, which will require c. 300 pilots.
Well, if this is going to happen, it should happen fast. The required training and infrastructure for operating warplanes is something that requires lots of time, and even if trained pilots were to come to Ukraine, they’d have to wait for the infrastructure to be created. Not getting properly prepared would only invite having your stuff destroyed before its even ready. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see, as usual.
