Explosions thundered in Sochi: oil depot near airport hit, fire broke out

On Sunday night, the city of Sochi in Russia’s Krasnodar region was noisy again. It was attacked by UAVs, dozens of explosions were heard, and a large-scale fire broke out at an oil depot.

Russians shared footage of the attack on Sochi online. In one of the videos, a local resident claims that the fire broke out on Aviatsionnaya Street, where a large oil depot is located not far from the Sochi airport.

In other videos, Russians say that an oil depot in Adler (a district of Sochi) is burning.

The Rosneft-Kubannefteprodukt oil depot (17/6 Aviatsionnaya St.) was hit. Several drone hits on this facility were reported.

“A fuel tank caught fire at an oil depot in the Adler district. The debris again hit buildings in the garage cooperative on Aviatsionnaya,” Sochi Mayor Andrei Proshunin said later.

Krasnodar Krai Governor Veniamin Kondratyev clarified that “drone debris” fell into a tanker with oil products.

For its part, the regional operational headquarters reported that a 2,000-cubic-meter tank with petroleum products was burning at the oil depot. In addition, “as a result of the fall of the drone’s debris,” a store on Aviatsionnaya Street caught fire, and five garages were also damaged.

“According to preliminary information, there are no casualties. 127 people and 35 pieces of equipment are involved in eliminating the consequences of the drone attack, including 75 people and 22 pieces of equipment from the Russian Emergencies Ministry,” the Russians reported on the scale of the “fall of UAV debris” at the oil depot.

Rosaviatsiya announced that temporary restrictions on the arrival and departure of aircraft have been introduced at Sochi Airport. Rosneft’s oil depot is located approximately one kilometer from the airport, in the area of Aviatsionnaya Street.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, on July 24, the Krasnodar region of the Russian Federation was also attacked by drones. It was loud in the resort city of Sochi, where the LUKOIL-Yugnefteprodukt oil depot at 1/4 Tavricheskaya Street was hit.
