On the night of July 21, 2026, a series of explosions were heard in Lipetsk, Russia. The main target of the attack, according to preliminary data and eyewitness reports, was an energy infrastructure facility.
After a series of strikes, a fire is raging in the industrial zone of the city and a huge column of smoke is rising. This is reported by monitoring Telegram channels.
A new wave of attacks on Russia
The missile and drone threat in the region was announced twice overnight. Shortly after the sirens, residents of the city heard several loud explosions.
According to preliminary information, the main strikes fell on the area of the Lipetsk CHP. As a result of the attack, a large-scale fire broke out on the territory of the facility. Footage published on the Internet shows a column of thick smoke and flashes.
In addition, local residents and the public reported that repeated detonations continued at the fire site for some time. Footage of the burning in the area of the energy hub was widely shared on local and monitoring Telegram channels.
Results of strikes on Lipetsk
In city forums, Russians actively discussed loud explosions, the operation of air defense systems and air raid sirens, complaining about the lack of accurate information from regional services. Official representatives of the region, even at the time of the first explosions, traditionally refrained from commenting on the extent of damage to the CHPP.
NASA’s FIRMS web mapping platform, which displays fires in almost real time, also confirms information about the impact on Lipetsk. In particular, satellites recorded thermal anomalies in the area of the CHP, as well as in other parts of the city’s industrial zone.
It is worth noting that the attack on Lipetsk was part of a combined night strike on infrastructure facilities in several regions of the Russian Federation. That same night, reports of explosions, air defense operations, and damage to energy facilities were coming from Belgorod and Volgograd.
According to OSINT analysis, in Lipetsk, after the attack, a fire broke out in the area between CHP-2 and the Novolipetsk Metallurgical Plant (NMLK).
The NMLK plant is the largest steelworks in Russia, producing about 20% of all Russian steel. Propaganda Russian media claims that the plant produces civilian products, but NLMK steel is purchased, in particular, by companies specializing in missile production.
As a reminder, on the morning of July 20, explosions were heard in the Moscow region of the Russian Federation. After them, fires broke out in several places. It is reported that the attacks targeted the logistics hub of the Russian marketplace Wildberries, an oil depot near Podolsk, and the Southern Gate logistics park near Domodedovo.
Earlier, OBOZ.UA reported that on July 18, Ukrainian drones attacked Russia’s largest logistics hub in several regions at once. Wildberries warehouses in Kotovsk and Elektrostal burned to the ground. Damages are estimated at at least 100 billion rubles.
