Former Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev assures that Russia, which annexed the Crimea and occupied part of the Donbass, does not pursue an “unfriendly policy” regarding Ukraine. He said this in an interview with the Russian Komsomolskaya Pravda.
At the same time, he advised the Ukrainian side to recognize these acts of aggression as a fait accompli.
“I can only say about Ukraine that our relations naturally changed after what happened there. They also changed for obvious reasons after the referendum in the Crimea and the reunification of Crimea with Russia (Crimea was occupied by the Russian army and annexed in violation of all international standards – OstroV). But this does not mean that we want to pursue some kind of unfriendly policy towards Ukraine. No, Ukrainians just should come to terms with the realities that exist and deal with the resolution of the internal crisis in the southeast of their country (part of Donbass is occupied by Russia with the support of local separatists – OstroV)”, – he stated.
As previously reported, Russia insists on its vision of the implementation of the Minsk agreements, according to which the now occupied Donbass should become a region controlled by the Russian Federation being part of Ukraine only nominally. In unison with the Kremlin, the “DNR/LNR” puppet authorities demand “special status” and declare that they do not intend to really return the uncontrolled territories to Ukrainian jurisdiction.
