European countries can send peacekeepers to Ukraine without Putin’s permission, – Macron

The French President spoke about the mission that peacekeeping forces could perform.

Ukraine is a sovereign country, so if it asks allied countries to deploy a peacekeeping contingent on its territory , it is not Russia that should decide whether to agree to them or not, said French President Emmanuel Macron.

In an interview with Le Parisien, he noted that this decision remains unchanged – the Europeans will not ask permission from the Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin. At the same time, cities where troops from other countries could be stationed are named, such as Odessa, Lviv and Kiev.

As for the Franco-British plan, which is being finalized and already involves “several countries” (both from within and outside Europe), Macron explained that the goal is not to create a massive military force, since the largest army in Europe is the Ukrainian army.

The idea is to “position several thousand troops from each country in key locations to conduct training programs” and “demonstrate support for allied countries on a long-term basis.”

  1. This is the type of attitude Macron and the other Western leaders should’ve had from the get-go.
