“On Ukraine’s Independence Day, Europe is demonstrating that our support is unwavering and concrete. Today, we approved €6.1 billion for air and missile defense systems, missiles, ammunition and radars that Ukraine urgently needs.
“As Russia steps up its attacks, we are stepping up efforts to help Ukraine protect its people and defend its airspace. Europe stands in solidarity with Ukraine, and we will provide it with what it needs, when it needs it,” said EC President Ursula von der Leyen.
They noted that most of the purchases will be made from EU defense companies.
“Given Russia’s increased use of ballistic missiles and jet-powered drones, the European Commission stresses the need to significantly increase supplies from the EU by reducing stocks, re-prioritizing orders, and increasing production,” the EC added.
