Ukraine will soon receive a EUR2.7 billion ($3.18 billion) aid package from the European Union under the Ukraine Facility, PM Yulia Svyrydenko said April 16 after meeting with European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos.

“Ukraine is preparing to receive a EUR2.7 billion package under the Ukraine Facility. This was made possible by the joint work of the government and the Verkhovna Rada,” Svyrydenko said in a Facebook post.

She credited the Ukrainian parliament (Verkhovna Rada) passing key bills last week, including laws to digitalize enforcement proceedings, integrate Ukraine into the EU energy market, and reform the state oversight system.

Svyrydenko said she and Kos also discussed technical issues related to the first tranche of the EUR90 billion EU loan, expected to go ahead after Hungarian PM Viktor Orban leaves office.

“We are also focused on Ukraine’s progress on the path to the EU,” she said.

“Ukraine is consistently and systematically meeting all steps of the EU integration process. We are moving to meet the requirements across all six thematic clusters. As part of this work, the government has already adopted a national program to adapt Ukrainian legislation to EU law — an important stage on the path to full membership that involves implementing more than 1,600 pieces of EU legislation.”
