The European Union will be able to refuse Russian gas supplies within two years, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Policy Josep Borrell said, Radio Liberty reports citing an interview with Sky News Arabia.
“We want to reduce our dependence on Russian gas and oil, because we are very dependent on them. Now it seems that they (Russia – ed.) are an unreliable partner. Therefore, we want to diversify our sources and the Middle East plays a big role,” Borrell said.
He also added that renewable energy sources can help reduce gas consumption.
It should be noted that Ukraine has repeatedly called on European countries to abandon Russian energy sources. Recently, the United States and Great Britain announced such a decision.
