On December 16, the European Union will discuss preparations for winter, against the backdrop of the expiration of the gas transit agreement between Russia and Ukraine. The European Union is trying to gradually abandon its dependence on fossil fuels from Moscow, Bloomberg writes .

It is noted that the ministers will meet with the new EU Energy Commissioner Dan Jorgensen to discuss options for reducing prices and increasing the competitiveness of EU industry in the transition to green energy.
“Energy availability remains a pressing issue, with volatile prices driven by geopolitical tensions, supply chain disruptions and reliance on fossil fuel imports,” said Hungary, which will chair the Brussels meeting as the EU’s presidency.
During the ministerial meeting, the commission will brief member states on preparations for this winter, as the intergovernmental transit agreement between Kyiv and Moscow, which was the basis for Russian pipeline gas supplies to Europe, expires on 31 December.
