The leaders of the countries of the European Union are monitoring the situation with the latest shelling by militants in the Donbass , but will not discuss specific new sanctions against Russia today.

This was stated before a meeting about the situation in Ukraine by one of the European officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, writes Reuters .

“The reason for the sanctions is a matter of political assessment. We are not entering into this discussion yet. We are closely monitoring the situation with shelling in the Donbass, we understand that this can be used as a test or justification,” the official said, answering a question about the latest shelling in the Donbass.
