He calls for arms deliveries to be accelerated.

The European Union has finally fulfilled its promise to transfer 1 million rounds of ammunition to the Ukrainian army , EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said.

According to him, Kyiv has already received weapons worth 45 billion euros from its European partners, and the allies will also train 75,000 Ukrainian soldiers by the end of winter. At the same time, Borrell believes that the current level of support is still insufficient to improve the situation on the battlefield:

“We are giving Ukraine enough to survive, and sometimes even less, while Russia has put its entire economy on a war footing and is counting on the unconditional support of North Korea and Iran. We must step up our aid and abandon the policy of imposing red lines on Ukraine’s defenders.”

He noted that the Ukrainians urgently need more air defense systems and ammunition, as well as long-range weapons and permission to strike deep into the Russian Federation.

“And yes, European countries could do more. If we recalculate our military aid per capita, it is less than 2 euros per European per week. Of course, the freedom of Ukraine and the security of Europe are worth much more than the price of a cup of coffee per week. A Russian victory will certainly cost Europe much more,” he added.

A Million Ammunition for Ukraine

As UNIAN reported, the European Union promised to transfer a million rounds of ammunition to the Ukrainian army by the spring of 2024, but did not manage to do so.

The Czech Republic has led the initiative to find ammunition for the Ukrainian army, and at least 20 countries have joined it.
