- EU foreign ministers have supported preparations for the opening of the first negotiating cluster for Ukraine and Moldova.
- The cluster is expected to open in the coming days after a discussion in the EU Council.
- This step is an important milestone on the path of European integration for Ukraine and Moldova.

On June 3, in Cyprus, the foreign ministers of European countries officially supported preparations for the opening of the first negotiating cluster on Ukraine and Moldova’s accession to the European Union. This was reported by the press service of the Cypriot presidency of the EU Council.”
Today, the Cypriot presidency initiated preparations for the official opening of Cluster 1 in the accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova. This marks an important milestone on their path to European integration and sends a strong signal of unity and determination of the EU,” the statement said.
It is expected that discussions on the official launch of negotiations in this direction will be completed in the EU Council in the coming days.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, at the end of May, the Financial Times wrote, citing its own sources, that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s insistence on Ukraine’s immediate accession to the European Union had led to an aggravation of tensions in relations with European leaders.
We also wrote that in April, France and Germany called for Ukraine to be granted “symbolic” EU membership without voting rights and access to the European budget.

In all honesty as an American, I’m completely confused about the different levels of “negotiations” needed to join the EU. I think the hurdles and bureaucracy are put there to determine whether a country really really wants to join the EU and go through years of discussions which may or may not be relevant to being a good member of the EU.
