Additional sanctions were also approved, which will be introduced separately from the 17th package of restrictive measures.

The Committee of Permanent Representatives of the European Union Member States (Coreper) has agreed to the decision to introduce the 17th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation.

This was reported by Radio Liberty editor Rikard Jozwiak on the X network.

“EU ambassadors have just given the green light to the 17th package of sanctions against Russia. In parallel, they also approved more sanctions against Russia over human rights violations, hybrid interventions around the world, and the proliferation of chemical weapons,” Jozwiak noted .

At the same time, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed the agreement on the 17th package of sanctions against Russia on the X network .

“We are further restricting access to technology for conducting combat operations. And we have added an additional 189 shadow fleet vessels to the list to strike at Russia’s energy exports. This war must end. We will continue to put strong pressure on the Kremlin,” von der Leyen stressed.

In turn, Vice-President of the European Commission, EU High Representative Kaia Kallas confirmed that the European Union is increasing pressure on Russia to force it to end its war.

“I welcome the agreement on the 17th package of sanctions. It will target the majority of Russia’s shadow fleet, which illegally transports oil to generate revenue to finance Putin’s aggression. The sanctions are depleting Russia’s military capabilities,” Kallas stressed.
