The Intelligence Centre of the Estonian Defence Forces says the situation on the battlefield in Ukraine remains challenging. Russian occupying forces are making some progress, although they are suffering significant losses, while Ukrainian soldiers are short of ammunition.

Details: Estonian intelligence indicates that the Russians have made a tactical breakthrough northwest of the war-torn town of Avdiivka and pushed forward 5 km. The Russians are also maintaining pressure on the village of Chasiv Yar, where they have advanced on the southern flank.

Ukrainian troops are in need of support from their Western partners, and the lack of ammunition is a priority. However, no unplanned Ukrainian retreat or breakthrough of the front line has been observed.

Ukraine is being forced to gradually cede control of territories that lack prepared defensive positions or opportunities for defensive action, Estonian intelligence added.

The Russian forces are continuing to reorganise their units on the Luhansk front, pulling formations fighting on the battlefield back to the rear to recover and replenish supplies and replacing them with fresh ones.

The Donetsk front remains the main focus of Russian offensive operations, with a significant number of Russian troops deployed in the area. Estonian intelligence expects no quick capture of Chasiv Yar, as the town has strong defensive fortifications, so the Russians are suffering heavy losses in the fighting.

Intense fighting is underway in the area of Avdiivka-Marinka. The Russians have advanced towards the settlement of Pervomaiske.

Low-intensity fighting has been observed in Zaporizhzhia and Kherson oblasts. Clashes involving direct and long-range weapons take place daily. Ukrainian forces are continuing to retain their foothold on the left bank of the Dnipro River, regardless of Russian attacks.

Background:

  • CIA Director William Burns warned members of the US Congress on Thursday that unless they approve aid to Ukraine now, Kyiv may lose the war by the end of the year.
  • Earlier, General Charles Brown, Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, told lawmakers that “Ukraine’s hard-won gains could be lost without our support”. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin also cautioned that if the bill on supplemental aid is delayed, US allies and partners will “question whether we are a reliable partner”.

  1. If the cockroaches are suffering heavy casualties now, with Ukraine low on ammo, what will happen when/if enough ammo should ever arrive for the AFU?

    • What will happen iscthe end of Russian advances, probably. And I really don’t understand why Nato is fooling around instead of decisevely doing what’s necessary to assure an Ukrainian victory. The sooner, the better, not only for Ukraine, but for Western democracies, too! 🤨

  2. Heavy losses? That’s for sure, but we know that Putin doesn’t care. And he still got enough tank reserves, for restauration, until the end of the year or so. Thus, the meat wave tactic is working for him and the AFU needs to find a way to counter that. As I see it, there need to be more deep ranging strikes, a kill zone of like 40 km, making the move towards the hotspots “roads of death” for the Russian units. More shells and missiles have to be produced and Nato finally has to manage to supply them on a timely and reliable basis. The current sitiation, where Ukraine has to beg time and again to get even a small part of what’s needed, isn’t sustainable and western countries should be ashamed of that measly support. That’s not the way to win a war! 😠

    • Those Taurus sure would be of great help to demolish a few strategic bridges to stop the flow of ruskie supplies. But, someone called Scholz can’t or doesn’t want to understand this.

      • Yup, so true, Mr. Ofp, and you know that I’m ashamed of that coward I voted for. But we Germans really didn’t have a better choice at the time and Scholz is still better than that bonehead Joe Biden. ☹

        • Btw, remember that I suggested a long time ago that Biden should make sure that Ukraine wins this war before the reelection campaign? Now look at this mess! Evidently, the US president isn’t even as smart as I am, and I’m really no genius!
As for Scholz, I’m quite convinced that Putin must have kompromat on him. He may have made threats after the Chancellor’s grandstanding speech about the “Zeitenwende”, that would explain a lot. 🤔

          • I think that Biden never had a strategy about all of this. His mind is always on the next ice cream truck that will come by.

        • I feel with you about this, Mr. Gray. Look at our two choices for president. And, we have a population of 350,000,000 people, yet we have only those two old, senile farts.
