Russia’s consulate general in Bonn may have served as a major hub for intelligence gathering and supporting Russian hybrid operations in Western Europe, German outlet Bild reported, citing sources in Brussels circles.

Following the revelations, Germany decided to close the diplomatic post no later than September 18, forcing about 60 Russian diplomats, including Consul General Oleg Krasnitsky, to leave the country and leaving Moscow with only its embassy in Berlin.

According to Bild’s sources, between 15 and 20 diplomats at the post may have been active intelligence operatives who cooperated with Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), the FSB, and the GRU.

Reports suggest they could have coordinated operations targeting Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and key institutions like the EU and NATO.

Land and building rights will remain Russian property, while outgoing staff are expected to clear or transfer classified files to Berlin.

On September 2, 2026, Germany formally accused the Russian government of an attempted drone attack at Leipzig/Halle airport, describing the incident as part of a concerted effort by Moscow to cause damage through hybrid warfare.

Investigators recovered multiple drones and traces of military-grade explosives around the airport perimeter after a device carrying 600 grams of explosives failed to detonate near a Ukrainian cargo plane.

In response to the plot, which carried hallmarks of Russia’s military intelligence agency, Berlin announced a package of retaliatory measures, including closing the Russian consulate in Bonn, shuttering the Russian House in Berlin, and delivering additional air defense missiles and attack drones to Ukraine.

  1. Every mafia embassy, every mafia consulate is a spy hub. Not only that: I’m sure they also manage subversive missions. We’ve been saying this for years.
So, who is surprised by this report?

Europe and especially Germany has been extremely weak and incompetent in putting a stop to mafia terrorism on the continent. They have been tolerating far too much for far too long and have not responded in kind whatsoever that I’m even remotely aware of. It’s more than high time to change tactics.

    • What does amaze me is the weak-kneed response about maintaining contact with the scum, when asked why the whole spy ring isn’t shipped out, including the ambassador.

  2. Of course we can always rely on TACO to support the war criminal.

“Pressed in the Oval Office over the incident, Trump said of Putin: “I speak to him. I know him very well. Putin’s not looking to attack Nato territory.”
