The mobilization of Odessa housing and communal services employees may lead to the fact that there will be no one to perform work to maintain the city’s life.

As the city’s vice-mayor Anna Pozdnyakova stated, many municipal enterprises already have a shortage of employees and everyone knows the reason.

“We cannot fully book the employees of our housing and communal services, utilities, because the latest changes to the Cabinet of Ministers’ Resolution No. 76 made this process impossible. And before that, the issue was critical, because we can only book up to 50% of employees,” the vice-mayor explained.

She noted that theories about women being able to replace men in vacant positions do not apply to all professions.

“If drivers are still possible, then crane operators, electric and gas welders, who have to stand knee-deep in water in winter, cannot be replaced by any women. And the problem will get worse. Even private companies, from where we sometimes attract narrow specialists, who are not practical to keep on staff, also have problems, they are taken to the front and soon such people will not exist either. We are on the verge of a communal collapse, when there will simply be no one to perform certain tasks,” Anna Pozdnyakova emphasized.

The city’s mayor Gennady Trukhanov added that every day there is a situation when a team is going to do work, they are stopped and sent to the military registration and enlistment office. This is exactly what happened to the specialists who were invited to carry out unprecedented work to  dismantle the Severnaya-1 boiler house pipe.

“Nobody has ever done this. We brought in a crane, paid a lot of money, brought in specialists from other regions, who were gone in a jiffy, they arrived, went to do the work and were picked up, and then our employees had to explain that these people were going to climb to a height of 130 meters and remove the pipe there. We lost three days to explain, pick them up and return to work,” the mayor said.

He previously said that a similar problem exists with elevator repair specialists. People complain that their elevators in their homes and hospitals do not work, especially those who use wheelchairs, because they are locked in their apartments and cannot go outside.

“We have a ton of requests, but when the team goes on a mission, it is stopped and mobilized. And what awaits us? A city without heating, without electricity, without elevators? Our city transport will soon stop because the drivers’ reservations are not extended, although we reserve those without whom the city cannot cope,” said Gennady Trukhanov.

He stressed that the city has to prove that housing and communal services enterprises and their employees are critically important for the life of Odessa.

“I would like to say: let’s open the lists and show what our employees do for the city, and let’s see what employees of other agencies do, what useful things they do in life and what useful things they do in our region, having received a reservation,” the mayor summed up.
