Volgograd, Russia, came under attack by drones on the night of May 29. Their target was the local refinery, Lukoil-Volgogradneftepererabotka, and a fire broke out at the enterprise.
This factory has been attacked for at least the tenth time, writes the independent Russian publication ASTRA.
In Volgograd – “anniversary” attack on the refinery
During the night, Volgograd residents began complaining about numerous explosions in the city. They also took and posted photos and videos online of the fire that broke out during the attack.
ASTRA conducted an OSINT analysis of the footage that appeared and concluded that the local refinery in Volgograd was once again attacked.
“Eyewitnesses filmed a fire in the city after the attack. According to ASTRA’s analysis of this photo, the Volgograd refinery of Lukoil was hit and caught fire. The distance from the shooting location to the fire site is about 30 km,” the publication noted.
The Ukrainian Telegram channel Exilenova+ reported on the explosions in Volgograd as early as 00:50 at night. Even then, they named the Lukoil-Volgogradnefteperebka refinery as a possible target of the attack.
At the same time, local governor Andriy Bocharov said that Russian air defenses “repel a massive attack by Ukrainian drones on energy and civilian infrastructure facilities,” and that the consequences of the attack consisted of broken windows in an apartment building, where “there were no injuries or fires.”
LLC “Lukoil-Volgogradneftopererobka” is the largest oil refinery in the Volgograd region and one of the key assets of “Lukoil”. The enterprise annually processes more than 15 million tons of oil. The plant specializes in deep oil refining, production of gasoline, diesel and aviation fuel, fuel oil, bitumen and other petroleum products.
It is not surprising that he repeatedly attracted the attention of the Defense Forces: the night attack became an “anniversary” one – the tenth.
Previously, this refinery was attacked in February 2024, twice in January, February, March, August 14 and 16, November 2025, and February 2026.
As OBOZ.UA reported, the day before, on May 28, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed the defeat of the Tuapse refinery and spoke about strikes on enemy command posts.
Explosions also rocked Taganrog and Voronezh the other day. An air base and an aircraft repair plant were targeted.
