On the night of March 20, Russia complained about a drone attack on the Saratov region. They claim that it was loud in Engels, where a military airbase is located: after the explosions in the area, a “mushroom” of smoke rose, and there was a further detonation in the warehouses.
This was partially reported by Russian Telegram channels, publishing footage. Information about the alleged evacuation of residents of houses located near the airfield was also spread there.
“Heavy smoke is visible in the “3rd Flying Town” neighborhood in Engels after the UAV attack,” propagandists wrote, citing statements from local residents.

Saratov Region Governor Roman Busargin said that as a result of the UAV attack in Engels, “windows in two kindergartens and a school were partially broken,” and there were no injuries.

At the same time, Rosaviatsia reported on the temporary suspension of operations at Saratov and Samara airports.

ASTRA Public drew attention to the fact that this neighborhood is located approximately 10 kilometers from the Engels-2 military airfield, from where Russian planes take off to launch missile strikes on Ukraine.

It was also noted that Russian social media outlets began reporting on the alleged evacuation of residents of nearby buildings with a military airfield after a UAV attack.

The regional or city authorities did not announce this. Previously, the governor only stated that schoolchildren in Engels would be taught remotely on Thursday.

The Exilenova+ Telegram channel reports a preliminary drone strike followed by a detonation in the area of the Engels-2 airfield warehouses. The 121st Guards Heavy Bomber Aviation Regiment, which is part of the long-range aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces, is based there.

“This airfield plays an important role in Russian missile attacks on Ukraine, as Tu-95MS and Tu-160 combat sorties are regularly carried out from it. Cruise missiles of the Kh-101 and Kh-55 types are stored and serviced at the airfield. Coordinates 51.48931964, 46.26702293,” the report says.

As OBOZ.UA reported, in the Krasnodar Territory of the Russian Federation, an oil depot in the village of Kavkazskaya burned for more than a day, attacked by Ukrainian drones on the night of March 19. The fire covered 1.7 thousand sq. m of area, and the enterprise stopped work due to the fire.
