On the night of July 22, the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Unmanned Systems Forces carried out another strike on targets in Russia related to the terrorist country’s military-industrial complex. This time, the Novokuibyshev Petrochemical Plant came under attack from UAVs.

Powerful explosions thundered in the area of the enterprise. Eyewitnesses posted the moment of the attack on the factory on Telegram.

Explosions in the Samara region of the Russian Federation

At night, the target of Ukrainian drones was the Samara region, specifically an enterprise that works for the Russian military-industrial complex. Local authorities warned of the threat of a UAV attack after midnight.

Soon, temporary restrictions were imposed on the arrival and departure of aircraft at Samara Airport. The airport’s operations were paralyzed for approximately three hours.

Eyewitnesses posted videos online showing numerous drones flying over the area of the city of Novokuybyshevsk, where a petrochemical plant is located. Russians also complained that loud explosions were heard at the time of the attack.

Russia boasts about “successful” air defense work

Local authorities, after the night drone attack, traditionally reported that air defense forces allegedly destroyed all the drones. In particular, the governor of the Samara region, Vyacheslav Fedorishchev, reported that “several drones were destroyed” in the region during an attempt to attack one of the industrial enterprises. The official claims that “there were no casualties or damage.”

It is worth noting that at the time of the attack, temporary restrictions on mobile internet were being imposed in the Samara region. Local authorities stated that “this necessary measure helps suppress UAVs.”

Local residents complained that they did not hear the alarm and ran out of their apartments in their underwear. In addition, the Russians stated that they tried to shoot down the UAV with small arms, but most of the attempts were unsuccessful.

Ukraine’s reaction after the attack on the Samara region

Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council, confirmed that Novokuibyshevsk Petrochemical Company, one of Russia’s largest enterprises in the gas processing and petrochemical sectors, which is part of the military-industrial complex production chain, has come under attack .

According to him, the enterprise produces components used in the production of TNT, hexogen, tetryl and other types of explosives. Specifically, they are used for artillery shells, aircraft bombs, cluster munitions and missiles. The processing volume is about 1 million tons per year.

What does the Novokuibyshevsk petrochemical plant do?

Novokuibyshevsk Petrochemical Company is one of the largest producers in the field of gas processing, petrochemicals and organic synthesis in Russia and Eastern Europe, and is also part of the production chain of the Russian military-industrial complex.

In particular, the company plays a significant role in supplying the Russian military-industrial complex, despite the fact that its products are positioned as civilian.

According to available information, the plant supplies components for the production of explosives, rocket fuel and ammunition. The enterprise supplies components to the Kazan Gunpowder Plant, which produces gunpowder for various types of weapons.

The plant also supplies products to the Sverdlovsk Plant (Nizhny Novgorod Region), where they are used in the production of explosives, including octogen and hexogen, which are components of artillery ammunition.

Novokuibyshevsk Petrochemical Company produces over 50 products, including liquefied gases, benzene, phenol, acetone, and olefins. It is also the only Russian producer of synthetic ethanol and para-tertiary butylphenol.

What preceded the attack in the Samara region

On the eve of the attack in Novokuibyshevsk, the Rostov region came under attack from Ukrainian UAVs. A large railway junction burned down in the urban-type settlement of Kamenolomny.

Russian Railways reported damage to the contact network due to falling drone debris. At that time, more than 50 long-distance trains were immediately delayed and a number of suburban trains were canceled.

In addition, on the night of July 21, drones attacked the Moscow region. Fires broke out in the settlements of Klimovsk and Kyivsky, the authorities of the aggressor country claim that 18 UAVs were shot down, but local publics published videos of the drones’ flight, as well as the consequences of the attack.

Recall that on July 20, after a drone attack on Moscow , a large-scale collapse occurred at Russian airports , hundreds of flights were canceled and delayed. Chaos also reigned on the railways of the aggressor country, with more than a hundred trains running with delays of up to 15 hours.

Recently , data appeared online about the consequences of a UAV attack on a factory in the Tula region. The strikes damaged workshops and halted production at the enterprise.
