On the night of March 27, Ukrainian drones attacked the Cherepovets Metallurgical Plant in Russia’s Vologda Region.
This was reported by Astra following an analysis of videos posted online.
The targeted facility belongs to the Russian mining and metallurgical holding company Severstal.
Judging by the released footage, at least one of the drones likely struck the blast furnace shop.
The nighttime drone strike was also confirmed by the region’s governor, Georgy Filimonov. He reported an attack on the Cherepovets industrial zone without specifying which facility was hit.
“As a result of the UAV attack on the industrial site in Cherepovets, eight hits were recorded. There is no damage to the district’s critical infrastructure. There are no casualties or injuries,” he wrote on Telegram.

Steel mill
The Cherepovets Steel Mill is Russia’s second-largest steel producer. It manufactures a wide range of products, including cast iron, steel, as well as flat and long products. It is located 800 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
Severstal itself is subject to sanctions imposed by Ukraine, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
This Russian steel mill has already been attacked by Ukrainian drones. The strike took place in early March 2024.
Following this, the plant’s press service reported that blast furnace No. 5 had been temporarily shut down for major repairs.
Strike on the oil refinery
As a reminder, following the attack by Ukrainian drones on the night of March 21, the Saratov Oil Refinery suspended operations.
The strikes damaged the secondary oil refining unit and the RVS-10000 vertical tank. Additionally, a 10,000-ton diesel fuel tank caught fire on the grounds of the Russian refinery.
