Explosions were heard in the Nizhny Novgorod region of the Russian Federation on the night of October 5. Locals complained about drone attacks and loud explosions.
The likely target of the attack was an oil refinery in the city of Kstovo: a fire was spotted near the plant. Footage was published by local social media.
What is known
Russians began writing about the “drone danger”, the work of air defense, and the explosions in Kstovo in local chat rooms after 2:30 a.m.
They counted explosions (some wrote about at least four) in the “industrial zone area” and expressed hope that it had not hit the “factory.”

Footage of a fire, allegedly near the local oil refinery, Lukoil-Nyzhegorodnefteorgsintez, also appeared online. This was particularly noted by the Exilenova+ Telegram channel.

This enterprise is located almost 1,700 km from the border with Ukraine. Its capacity is 17 million tons of oil per year. This plant is called the fourth largest in the Russian Federation.

The Nizhny Novgorod refinery in Kstovo has been visited by Ukrainian drones more than once. Attacks were reported in March 2024, January and September 2025.
Earlier, OBOZ.UA reported that the day before, one of the largest oil refineries in the Leningrad region caught fire after a drone attack in Russia. The damage was later confirmed by the General Staff.

Good job, Ukraine. Do not let loose on your effort to destroy of mafia land’s cash cows. They all must burn.
