Inspectors spent the whole day checking the detained vessel.
The Estonian Department of Transport has found about 40 violations on a detained tanker belonging to the Russian ” shadow fleet ,” the department’s maritime service director Kristian Truu said, ERR reports .

“All day yesterday, inspectors from the Department of Transport inspected the vessel and recorded a number of serious violations, due to which we cannot allow the vessel to continue its movement. Neither navigational safety nor environmental safety is ensured,” Truu said.
It is specified that 29 of the 40 violations are considered “serious.” According to the department, this was the reason for the detention of the tanker Kiwala, which was sailing without a flag.
It is noted that 23 of the 40 violations relate to documents. All others are related to the navigation safety system, crew training for emergencies and technical malfunctions.
Truu also explained that the vessel did not have the flag of a state that would be responsible for it.
“This means that it is not under the jurisdiction of any country. Estonia, within the framework of its rights and international obligations, conducted an inspection. We are in constant contact with the vessel’s representative,” Truu emphasized.
