One of the streets will be renamed in honor of the Glodan Family, the other – in honor of the commander of the Knights of the Winter Campaign Brigade, Vitaly Gulyaev.
In Odessa, they want to rename dozens of streets , including in honor of Ukrainian heroes. Also, it is possible that they will remove the monument to the Russian poet Alexander Pushkin in the historical center. Today, July 29, a photocopy of the order of the head of the Odessa Regional Military Administration Oleg Kiper appeared on social networks , in which he approves the renaming of a number of toponyms.

In particular, according to his order of July 26 “On the renaming of toponymic objects in populated areas of the Odessa region”, Dobrovolsky Avenue will become Prince Vladimir the Great Avenue, and in the historical center, Dumskaya Square, where the Odessa mayor’s office is located, will be called Birzhevaya.
The boulevard named after the satirist Mikhail Zhvanetsky will become the Boulevard of the Navy, and Ilf and Petrov Street will become a street in honor of the Glodan Family – the family of an Odessa baker who lived in the Tiras residential complex. In April 2022, Yuri Glodan’s wife, young daughter, and mother-in-law were killed in an apartment by a Russian missile strike. Yuri, who was not at home during the strike, later went to the front, where he also died.
Also, Rear Admiral Lunin Street will be renamed in honor of the commander of the 28th separate mechanized brigade named after the Knights of the Winter Campaign, Vitaly Gulyayev, who died in 2022. Levanevsky Street will be named “Sich Riflemen”, Leo Tolstoy Street – director Kira Muratova, Paustovsky Street – the 28th Brigade, Pushkinskaya Street will become Italian (historical name), Tolbukhin Square – Tribunes of Heroes, Leo Tolstoy Square is to be named in honor of Mendel Sforim – a Jewish writer who is considered the founder of modern secular literature in the Yiddish language (years of life – 1835-1917). The city should have streets named after Alexander Koshitsy, Alexey Markevich, Pavel Zeleny, Nikolay Savich and others.
As activist Demyan Ganul noted, in Odessa they have “finally begun” to rename streets in honor of Ukrainian heroes.
“These renamings, the titanic work of many people… I thank everyone who is involved in renaming Odessa streets, there is still a lot of work ahead. Ukrainian Odessa will soon actively say goodbye to the past, which is somehow connected with Russia,” he wrote.
The activist added that in Odessa, in particular, there will be a street in honor of his friend Yaroslav Bais (now Vladimir Vysotsky), who died during the terrorist attack in Elenovka.

He also claims that, according to his information, the monument to Russian writer Alexander Pushkin may be removed from the historical center. This large monument is located on Primorsky Boulevard and was erected in 1887-1889 with funds donated by Odessans. The monument is a bust of the poet placed on a high, square-section granite pedestal.
Renaming streets in Odessa
Let us recall that earlier in Odessa they decided to rename several streets and a square where there was a monument to the Russian Empress Catherine II. In particular, at a meeting of the city historical and toponymic commission, the discussion of the issues of renaming toponyms in Odessa was continued.
The commission members recommended renaming Ekaterininskaya Street and Ekaterininskaya Square to European Street and Square.
The commission also adopted recommendations to rename Zhukovsky Street to Lesi Ukrainka Street, etc.
