Swedish-American economist and diplomat Anders Aslund has said that Donald Trump is “the most corrupt president in US history,” accusing his entourage of making billions of dollars from dubious business deals and stating large-scale corruption risks in government procurement.
He said this in an interview with Anton Borkovsky, host of the “Studio West” program, on the air of Espresso.
“Donald Trump is the most corrupt president in US history. His family has made several billion dollars from dubious business deals, including those related to cryptocurrency. And in fact, almost every major government procurement is now accompanied by stories of corruption,” Aslund said.
According to the diplomat, Donald Trump’s anti-corruption policy is of serious concern, in particular due to the de facto rollback of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.
“So, of course, Trump is much worse than anything that is happening in Ukraine. In addition, he actually stopped the implementation of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. And today in the US, corruption and crimes related to embezzlement are almost not investigated, because Trump believes that the executive branch can afford it,” he added.
He also emphasizes that the current policy of the United States towards Ukraine indicates a significant reduction in American participation in supporting Kyiv, in particular in the field of arms supply and financial assistance. At the same time, the interlocutor sharply criticized the internal situation in the United States, stating about the high level of corruption and weakening of control over the government.
“I would say that today the US is much more corrupt than Ukraine. At the same time, the US actually no longer plays a significant role in Ukraine or for Ukraine. They do not supply weapons to Ukraine. The US has abandoned its previous commitments, although these weapons were to be paid for by the Europeans. So, perhaps the US still provides Ukraine with some intelligence information, but they do not supply weapons and do not provide financial assistance,” the diplomat concluded.
