The first Ukrainian private kubsat will be launched into orbit by the German rocket company Rocket Factory Augsburg AG (RFA). The mission is scheduled for the end of 2022 from the Norwegian spaceport Andoja, and will be the first for both participants.

The satellite belongs to the Ukrainian startup Lunar Research Service. Its co-founder, Dmytro Khmara, has experience in creating training satellites as part of the MySat UA team and is testing space equipment in the stratosphere, and now wants to move on to more serious projects. The company positions its satellite as the first private Ukrainian kubsat.

During the mission, LRS is going to test communication systems and docking of its own development. It is unknown whether the satellite will do anything else in orbit.

RFA is the “daughter” of the German satellite manufacturer OHB Systems and since 2018 has been creating a 3-stage rocket with a multiple first stage, capable of bringing a payload of up to 1300 kg into low orbits. The company aims to ensure the weekly launch of spacecraft into orbit with the cost of each launch not exceeding $ 3 million.
