The Executive Committee of Odesa supported the dismantling and relocation of the monument to the “Founders of Odesa”, the central figure of which is the statue of Empress Catherine II.

As reported by the press service of the city hall, the corresponding decision was made today, November 24.

“At the meeting of the executive committee of the Odesa City Council, the members of the executive committee supported the draft decision on the dismantling and relocation of the monument to the Founders of Odesa,” the message reads.

As “Suspilne Odesa” writes,  the decision was made unanimously. In addition, they voted for the dismantling of the monument to the Russian commander Oleksandr Suvorov on the South Road. 

According to Odesa Vice Mayor Oleg Bryndak, the issue of the demolition of the monument to Catherine II will be finally resolved on November 30 at the city council session. A fountain can be restored on the site of the Russian empress.
