Died Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Oleg Kravchenko. He was supposed to become the first Belarusian ambassador to the United States in 12 years, but he never managed to leave for Washington.

Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Oleg Kravchenko, who was appointed Ambassador to the United States in July, died at the age of 49, reports Tut.by, citing the press service of the Foreign Ministry. The causes of Kravchenko’s death were not specified.

Kravchenko in July 2020 was appointed to the post of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to the United States. He became the first Belarusian ambassador to the United States since 2008, when the countries recalled the heads of the embassies, and the leadership of the diplomatic missions of both countries was reduced to the level of a chargé d’affaires.

Kravchenko did not have time to leave for Washington and continued to act as Deputy Foreign Minister.
