Details of the plan to contain Russia that Macron and Starmer will take to Trump have become known

02/23/2025

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron are presenting their plan for a peacekeeping contingent in Ukraine to US President Donald Trump during a visit to the United States. The plan envisages the deployment of up to 30,000 European troops on Ukrainian territory after a ceasefire.

However, the implementation of the plan requires support from American troops for European deterrence forces without the first being deployed in Ukraine, and Starmer and Macron will try to convince Trump to agree to this. The details of the plan to deter Russia were published by The Wall Street Journal.

Under the plan that Starmer and Macron are taking to Washington, a peacekeeping contingent of up to 30,000 European troops would be deployed to deter Russia after a ceasefire is reached in Ukraine. The core of the deterrent force would be British and French troops, along with naval and air forces.

These peacekeeping troops are unlikely to be deployed along the front lines, but rather will serve the function of protecting our country’s vital infrastructure, cities, and ports on the Black Sea.

Russia’s compliance with the ceasefire, according to the plan, will be monitored using drones and satellites.

However, the plan requires American security guarantees for Ukraine. Whether Trump is ready to consider this issue may become clear in the coming days, after Starmer and Macron meet with the US president at the White House.

According to the WSJ, the European deterrence plan, which is still under development, does not include the deployment of US troops in Ukraine, as the US presidential administration has repeatedly stated that this is impossible. However, European forces feel the need to use American military capabilities.

The publication’s sources say that the United States may be deploying air defense systems in the territories of countries bordering Ukraine, so that these systems would cover part of the territory of our country. At the same time, the United States could provide other air defense systems to Europeans.

In addition, US air forces based outside Ukraine must be ready to respond if European forces are threatened.

Unnamed European officials told the WSJ that Starmer will speak to Trump about the European plan on Thursday, February 27, but they believe the British prime minister is unlikely to make a specific request for American assistance.

Macron will meet Trump earlier, on Monday, February 24, the third anniversary of the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The purpose of his meeting with the American president is to outline the allies’ broader views on the Russia-Ukraine war and how to ensure that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, after a respite, does not attack again.

Citing European officials, the publication adds that without Trump’s support, the European plan to send peacekeepers will be difficult to implement.

The key challenge for Europe at this time, writes WSJ, may be Trump’s intention to strengthen ties with Russia and his reluctance to position the American military as a potential adversary of Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s forces in Ukraine.

British officials are convinced that US participation is crucial to deterring Russian attacks, encouraging other European countries to also send troops, and providing the multinational force with key capabilities that European armed forces lack.

As a reminder, the Kremlin previously  stated that any British plan to send peacekeepers to Ukraine “would be unacceptable to Russia .” In turn, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski stated that  Ukraine, not Russia, would decide which troops would be on its territory.

  1. “Under the plan … a peacekeeping contingent of up to 30,000 European troops would be deployed to deter Russia …”
“However, the plan requires American security guarantees for Ukraine.”

UP TO 30,000 troops, not at least. And only with cooperation of the orange administration.
If this is all Europe can come up with, having a population of around 500,000,000 people and one of the planet’s largest economies, then it’s game over for the continent, sooner or later. This plan is so pathetic that it makes a person speechless.

  2. I have a better plan. Arm Ukraine to the teeth, sanction mafia land until it collapses completely. Then there will be no need for peacekeepers.

      • According to Konstantin last night. Even if the US lifted sanctions, mafia land is too far gone. It just needs a little push to send them over the edge.

  3. They are only talking about “peacekeepers”, not combat troops.
Note also that Europe is following Trumpkov’s lead: like him, they already conceded the occupied territories to nazi vermin.
These 30,000 need to come from France and the UK : 2 divisions of mechanized infantry, with full air support.
The Scandies plus Holland can provide one division between them.
Poland must have its arm twisted and send one division.
Our commonwealth friends Canada, Aus and NZ could also send one.
That leaves it one division short. Germany should step in.

    • This is all so deeply pathetic! It seems we’re talking about a run-of-the-mill peacekeeping mission in a small African country, instead of a huge war in EUROPE.
