Lecornu said that the Ukrainian army is an important element of the European security architecture.

Paris continues to support the ceasefire in Ukraine , but will refuse any demilitarization of the Ukrainian army. This statement was made by French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu at the opening of the Defense and Strategy Forum, Le Parisien reports .

According to him, the Ukrainian Defense Forces are an important element for any future European security architecture.

Lecornu also added that Europe is currently experiencing a new historical period, which is different from the Cold War and the “peace dividend period” during which numerous world powers are vying for influence.

He stressed that at the Paris Forum on Defence and Strategy, discussions will focus on how NATO and Western countries can protect their eastern flank if in the future some states, “or one country in particular,” reduce their contribution to security.
