The decision on Ukraine’s right to join NATO has remained valid since the 2008 Bucharest Summit, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has said.
“NATO decided at the NATO Summit in Bucharest in 2008. I was there myself in a different capacity. I remember we decided then that Ukraine and Georgia will become members of NATO. This decision still stands. At the same time, we have not put in place any exact timetable. What we focus now is how we can help both Georgia and Ukraine move towards Euro-Atlantic integration, implement reforms, modernize defense and security institutions,” he said at the “NATO Engages: Innovating the Alliance” conference in London on Tuesday.
According to Stoltenberg, there are intermediate stages of cooperation with NATO on the path to full membership of the Alliance.
He said that NATO’s cooperation with Ukraine and Georgia is now beneficial to all parties, since, on the one hand, NATO is helping these countries move closer to NATO, and on the other hand, these countries are participating in NATO-led missions, in particular, in Afghanistan.
A declaration recognizing Ukraine’s right to join NATO was adopted at the NATO Summit in Bucharest in April 2008.

Better would have been to declare Ukraine is now an official member of the alliance…
I think it’s good too if Ukraine and Georgia are considered together. Especially since they have the same problem. That would be a big message to the aggressor regime.
Today, Ukraine fulfills four commonly stated requirements to join NATO. These include (1) having a long-term and existing relationship with NATO; (2) providing a major contribution to NATO; (3) a majority of citizens supporting NATO membership in a referendum; and (4) Russian influence and soft power has fallen to low levels.Ukraine has participated in every NATO peacekeeping operation. In 2003, Ukraine provided the largest non-NATO military contingent to the US-led coalition forces in Iraq.
Stoltenberg was a Marxist-Leninist agitator in his youth who was duped by the KGB. He then went onto the crapulous crypto-Marxist Labour Party. He is just taking up time and space in Nato. Ukraine and Georgia will get nothing but crap from this arsehole.
Nato exists for one reason only. Because the Russian sympathiser FDR handed over Eastern Europe to Stalin for 45 years, it had to come into existence to stop the Ivans from invading Western Europe too. It succeeded, but it is now crawling with putinoid scum: Hungary, Italy, Germany and France. None of these countries will ever fight Russia, so kick them out. France in particular would struggle to fight anyone, because it is a nation of fascists, commies, muzloids and cheese eating surrender monkeys. Its current President is just the latest in a long line of scummy, slippery shysters who could not be trusted even to run a whelk stall.
