Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen summoned the US ambassador to the Foreign Ministry after a publication in The Wall Street Journal stating that the US is increasing intelligence activities in Greenland.

Rasmussen said he was concerned by the material published in The Wall Street Journal.

“I read the article and it worries me a lot. Because we don’t spy on friends… I can’t know if this is happening because it’s written about in the newspaper. But those who are speaking out are not very forceful in denying it. And that worries me,” the diplomat said.

He noted that a personal meeting with the American ambassador could clarify whether the publication’s report is true.

“And at least so that we can express our point of view. It is very disturbing if someone has the approach they have now to obtain intelligence in Denmark and Greenland,” Rasmussen added.
