Residents of Crimea and Sevastopol were very passive in the spring of 2014 and were not ready to really fight for a “reunion” with Russia. This opinion was expressed by Russian saboteur Igor Girkin (Strelkov) in an interview with Moskovskij Komsomolets.
“Donbass was much more active than Crimea. Including, perhaps, even Sevastopol. I was there and I know quite well how the self-organization of Russians in the Crimea took place. A significant part of the population did not care a jot about the establishment of power – Russian or Ukrainian”, – he stated.
“What an interesting confession”, – the Russian journalist, who use the propaganda cliches about the fateful choice of Crimeans, was surprised.
“Sorry, but I always tell the truth. Sometimes, of course, it becomes necessary to be engaged in propaganda, but now I am not a military-political leader, I do not need propaganda”, – Girkin answered.
“Yes, the majority of the Crimean population was loyal to the “reunification” with Russia. But if there had not been a “reunification”, they would not have actively entered the barricades”, – he assured.
As previously reported, the “annexation” of Crimea to Russia was the result of occupation of the peninsula by Russian troops.

He always tells the truth perhaps, but it is HIS truth, which is not necessarily THE truth.
I have to say, I have never been to Crimea, nor do I know anyone from there, but I would call into doubt the legitimacy of any claims that the genuine residents of Crimea wanted to become part of Russia.
Now the truth is coming out. How long until Girkin shoots himself in the back or jumps off the roof of his apartment building?
