The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that on the night of August 16, the Crimean Bridge was attacked by American ATACMS missiles.

“Tonight, air defense systems repelled a group attack by 12 US-made ATACMS operational-tactical missiles on the Crimean Bridge. All missiles were destroyed,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement published on the agency’s Telegram channel on the afternoon of August 16.

Earlier, the ministry reported that Russian troops in Crimea shot down or intercepted five Ukrainian aircraft-type drones and destroyed two unmanned boats in the Black Sea at night. According to unconfirmed reports, the Kerch port was hit, and debris also fell in the city. During the attack, the Crimean Bridge was closed for four hours, monitoring channels reported that eight missiles were shot down in the area of ​​the bridge.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces did not comment on the incident.

Sources of the American television channel CNN reported on August 15 that the United States does not want to allow the Ukrainian Armed Forces to use American long-range weapons for strikes on the Kursk region, because it can provide Ukraine with only so many ATACMS missiles. According to the sources, the American authorities believe that Ukraine should use the missiles it has for strikes on annexed Crimea.
