“Our support for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine is unwavering. The return of Crimea to Ukraine is a requirement of international law,” Erdogan said

He emphasized that the need to de-occupy the peninsula is Turkey’s position, because Ankara has never recognized the Russian annexation of Crimea. The Turkish leader also pointed to the “unbearable pain” suffered by the Crimean Tatars due to the Russian occupation, and promised to continue the policy of supporting this people.

Concluding his speech, Erdoğan outlined Ankara’s broader aspirations for an end to the Russia-instigated conflict.

“Our sincere desire is for the war to end with a just and lasting peace based on the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine,” he emphasized.
