Crimea in exchange for part of the occupied territories: CNN portrayed “Trump’s peace agreement”

However, even peace in Ukraine does not guarantee the end of Russian aggression in a more global dimension.

A peace agreement between Ukraine and the Russian Federation mediated by Donald Trump may provide for Kyiv’s renunciation of claims to Crimea in exchange for the return of part of the remaining occupied territories, CNN reports .

The publication recalls Trump’s dubious promise to end the war in one day and the fact that the Republican Congress is now unlikely to pass a new program of military aid to Ukraine. Also, CNN outlines a general outline of a peace agreement that Kyiv and Moscow can sign with Trump’s mediation.

“Russia will keep Crimea, which it seized in 2014, and Ukraine will get back some of the territories in eastern Ukraine that Russia seized. Instead, Ukraine will not join NATO, but will receive security guarantees from the US, such as Japan. Neither the Russians nor the Ukrainians will be satisfied with the elements of this agreement, but the alternative is eternal war, in which about a million people on both sides have already been killed and wounded,” the publication said.

Another dimension of this problem is Trump’s intention to fundamentally revise cooperation with NATO allies. Although it will be extremely difficult for him to withdraw the US from the organization, even some public statements of the next American president can significantly undermine the alliance, calling into question the principle of collective defense.

CNN reminds that this could happen against the background of continued Russian aggression in the global dimension, where Putin shows no intention of winding down his hybrid campaign against Europe. In particular, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte recently stated that Russia is conducting an increased campaign of hybrid attacks “in our allied territories, directly interfering with our democracies, sabotaging industry and committing violence.”

“Given Trump’s strange romance with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Russia will likely feel empowered to continue this effort to undermine NATO countries, knowing that Trump may not push back,” CNN writes.

    • Every media site is coming out with their own versions of any peace deal. None of them mention that without Zelensky, there is no peace deal. Trump and putler can agree whatever they want, if Zelensky tells them to GFY, there isn’t much they can do about it. This is a great chance for Europe to show some spine and to show they are serious about European sceurity.
