The journalists’ lawyer called the court’s decision “a decisive victory for press freedom.”

A federal judge on March 28 temporarily halted the US administration’s efforts to shut down the Voice of America media outlet, The New York Times reported .
Judge J. Paul Oetken of the U.S. District Court in Manhattan made the ruling during a hearing on a lawsuit by journalists that claims sending hundreds of journalists on leave violates their rights.
It is noted that the temporary restraining order is valid for 21 days. In the meantime, a separate lawsuit filed by Voice of America director Michael Abramowitz is still pending.
“This is a decisive victory for press freedom and the First Amendment, and a sharp rebuke to an administration that has shown complete disregard for the principles of democracy,” said Andrew G. Chelly, a lawyer for the journalists who filed the lawsuit.

Words you never expected a US citizen to utter when talking about his own country.
