Donald Trump missed an opportunity after winning New Hampshire’s GOP presidential primary against Nikki Haley on Tuesday, according to a conservative commentator for CNN.
“He made a mistake last night,” Scott Jennings said Wednesday on the network.
“He could’ve walked out there and just said: ‘This race is over. I appreciate all my opponents. I appreciate Ambassador Haley. All Republicans are welcome to join. Let’s go beat [Democratic incumbent] Joe Biden,’” added Jennings, a former aide to President George W. Bush.
“And he just couldn’t do it.”
Haley, Trump’s onetime United Nations ambassador, gave an upbeat speech after her 11-point loss, criticizing the former president and vowing to continue her campaign through next month’s primary in her home state of South Carolina.
In the days prior to the New Hampshire vote, she had stepped up her criticism of Trump, questioning his mental acuity. The tactic appeared to get under his skin, as Trump’s victory speech was filled with grievances and insults directed at the former South Carolina governor.
“The Haley people went out and spoke early to try to bait him into that reaction. And he took the bait,” Jennings said on CNN. “Now we’re going to fight it out … for another month.”
He added, “It was a strategic mistake.”
During the victory speech, Trump fumed that Haley hadn’t dropped out of the 2024 race, commented on the way she dressed and said, “I don’t get too angry — I get even.”
The Haley campaign responded by mocking his “angry rant.”
“This is why so many voters want to move on from Trump’s chaos and are rallying to Nikki Haley’s new generation of conservative leadership,” a Haley spokesperson said.
Trump didn’t seem to have cooled off by Wednesday, with his criticism of Haley only increasing in vitriol. In one social media tirade, he said that anyone who donates to the Haley campaign would be “permanently barred” from his “Make America Great Again” movement.

Trumpkov accuses Nikki of having a “birdbrain?”
This is the man who reveres nazi-loving scum Orban as a “great man”, but believes he is the PM of Turkey. He also claims that Orban has a “front” with Russia. Neither Turkey or Hungary have a border with Russia.
Who’s the birdbrain? The one who loses a court case with a molestation victim, defames her again and is forced to pay $83m?
Trump would make an excellent president. Of Ruritania.
There are many in the US who swoon over the fat orange baboon no matter what garbage he spews out every day of his miserable life. This is the true disaster of our nation. We see what happens to a country of brainwashed zombies in mafia land. Are we heading in the same direction?
It does look that way. With the GOP hell bent on nominating a kremlin asset, all the hopes for Ukraine rest on a doddery old fellow with no stomach for a fight.
No doubt Biden thinks he can win. If he does, then maybe Ukraine will see a bit more help coming their way?
But if Trumpkov is nominated, it will depend on conservative Ukraine supporters gritting their teeth and voting for the Dems. Unfortunately I don’t think many will do that because of all their domestic concerns.
Unfortunately it’s not the republican establishment. For instance in Iowa, Trump got 56,000 votes out of 2.0MM republicans. In New Hampshire I can’t get the exact republicans but I believe the stats are similar. Unfortunately what I see is that primarily the hard right (IMHO) in the party vote for him while the vast majority stay home. This is what politicians have done to this once great country. I am so disgusted. In all honesty if I wasn’t so old (or perhaps not old but just hard to give up on a country that I’ve lived my entire life) I’d move to the country of my beloved heritage and home of my forefathers ….Ukraine
It’s interesting to see Trump starting to lose Republican moderates, and Republican centrists, as well as Independents seeing as Haley is now the anti-establishment. Trump has become the very establishment he once was working against.
I hope that Biden’s new border deal will help his campaign. Even if the shitty House won’t pass it, it proves that he was ready for a compromise. Surely, that’s got to be worth something.
