North Korean troops are actively training in the war against Ukraine, which is a serious threat to the whole world. They arrived unprepared, but they are taking on combat experience, which they are integrating into the DPRK army. Also, like the Russian occupiers, they are forbidden to retreat – their commanders will execute them for it.
However, North Korean soldiers are adapting to fighting in such conditions, gaining real combat experience and critical military skills, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview with the Associated Press .
According to him, North Korean soldiers are training in this war.
“They (North Koreans. – Ed.) arrived unprepared compared to our military, but they, like the Russians, cannot retreat, because they can be shot. Their own forces are shooting them, their own commanders. But they are learning in this war. They are participating in serious ground operations. I think they will bring all this knowledge back,” Zelenskyy said.
The President considers it dangerous that North Korean troops are in Kursk. They are really training in combat conditions and gaining important experience. In particular, regarding combat tactics, UAV strategy, and battlefield survival skills. Everything they received in Ukraine will be returned to North Korea and integrated into their army. This poses a direct threat to the security of the United States, the Indo-Pacific region, and many other countries.
In addition, Russia’s involvement in the war with North Korea is a completely unique moment in history. After all, for the first time in a decade, Russia officially showed its alliance by involving Iran and North Korea. These countries had relations before, they quietly or not very much exchanged technology, weapons, etc.
However, here Russia has openly allied itself with Iran and North Korea – not only in secret arms deals, but also directly in war. Iran supplies weapons, North Korea provides both weapons and military contingents. It is not just about Ukraine – it is a military alliance against the entire West, especially against the United States.
“That is, this is a separate alliance today: North Korea – Russia – Iran. And this is a specific alliance against Ukraine and against the entire West. And I believe that this is a specific alliance against the United States of America. This is a very dangerous alliance. These three countries, in addition to being nuclear, are very escalating states, and they are definitely not about peace in general. Today they have such a unified policy. They are strategic partners, they have actually united their defense-industrial complexes, and they will expand this, increase production, etc.,” the president noted.
Zelensky recalled that North Korea brought 12,000 soldiers to the front, of which they definitely lost 4,000. He called them “the first batch of North Koreans,” because there is no other way to describe them.
“Because it’s a package. They don’t know where they’re going, and they’re fighting against a country they’ve never been to. Because it’s a package, it’s not people. Because that’s just the attitude they have, in North Korea and the “Russians”, towards their people,” he added.
According to him, it is possible that the DPRK will send another 20-25 thousand soldiers to Ukraine. Zelensky also mentioned the successful operation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk direction, which hit their central command post.
“They lost key officers from Russia and North Korea yesterday. This was our military goal, a fair one. There was a missile strike from our side. Various types of weapons were used, but a comprehensive strike was delivered against them. I think it’s about dozens of officers. They lost dozens of officers yesterday,” the president explained.
In addition, according to him, after the loss of 4 thousand North Korean soldiers, they are not allowed to storm , but everything can change any day. Ukrainian intelligence has data on when and in which directions North Korean troops can be involved again.
Zelensky believes that the Kursk operation helped protect border cities, such as Sumy and Kharkiv, from shelling and possible occupation.
As OBOZ.UA reported, British intelligence has stated that North Korean troops have failed to achieve significant results in Kursk. They have lost more than a third of their approximately 11,000 personnel and are also having problems integrating into the Russian command and control structure.
