Colombia, acting on a U.S. request, has arrested a senior Russian FSB operative suspected of involvement in assassination plots across Europe, according to media reports.

Russian outlet VChK-OGPU, which is close to Russia’s security services, reports that authorities in Colombia detained Denis Alimov, identified as a key agent with the FSB’s Special Purpose Center .

“According to leaks, Alimov served at least until 2022 in military unit 35690, the FSB TsSN, the base of the ‘Vympel’ special unit. Alimov used the call sign ‘Aryan’ and, judging by his interests, had ties to underwater operations,” VChK-OGPU reported.

Alimov was arrested at Bogotá’s airport immediately upon arrival in the country, the outlet said. A U.S. arrest warrant had reportedly been issued several months earlier.

“U.S. authorities believe that from October 2024 to March 2025, Alimov took part in a conspiracy to kill or kidnap two people ‘widely known in Europe.’ Alimov provided technical information and recruited others for the operation,” the channel said.

Investigators documented a $60,000 advance Alimov allegedly sent to the would‑be perpetrators, with the Russians reportedly prepared to pay $1.5 million for the attack.

One of Alimov’s associates was arrested in the United States about a year ago.
