Coal embargo and transport blockade: EU approves new sanctions against Russia

The package will contain new personal sanctions against Russian oligarchs, the military apparatus and the security apparatus of the Russian Federation.

The European Union managed to approve the fifth package of sanctions against Russia on the second day.

As expected, the package will contain new personal sanctions against Russian oligarchs, propagandists, the military and security apparatus of the Russian Federation, key individuals from the industrial and technology sectors.

The sanctions are as follows:

  • ban on coal imports;
  • freezing the accounts of Russian banks;
  • a ban on the supply of weapons to Russia;
  • prohibition of entry into EU ports of ships flying the Russian flag;
  • a ban on the export of high-tech goods;
  • a ban on the activities of transport companies from Russia and Belarus;
  • new restrictions will be imposed against Russian businessmen, journalists, military and security personnel, as well as businesses associated with the war in Ukraine.

  1. All these sanctions only hurt those who impose them. Better arm Ukraine to the teeth with arms they have not received to this day. Sanctions never defeated anybody, gunpowder did.

  2. Some of these should have been in place years ago. Ban on weapons export FFS.

  3. I don’t know why the West must always take tiny little steps with its sanctions when mafia land abuses in huge strides.
