Tucker Carlson , a conservative commentator currently under scrutiny in the United States, has long drawn criticism in Ukraine for spreading narratives that align with the Kremlin’s position, Kyiv Independent reports .

The publication explains that his activities are attracting renewed attention amid claims that he could face criminal charges in his homeland.

“The CIA is preparing some kind of criminal case against me, a criminal report to the Department of Justice based on a crime I allegedly committed,” Carlson said.

He suggests that the charges may be related to his contacts with individuals in Iran.

The publication says that these statements came against the backdrop of Carlson distancing himself from generally accepted conservative positions, in particular due to his criticism of the US-Israeli war with Iran.

The publication noted that this position put him in opposition to part of the movement he once helped shape.

However, it is noted that Carlson’s reputation in Ukraine was established years earlier. Ukrainian officials have long pointed out that he has repeatedly spread narratives that closely resemble Russian propaganda – from conspiracy theories about biological laboratories in Ukraine to allegations of Kyiv’s role in military incidents.

“As attention on Carlson intensifies in Washington, his work on Ukraine makes it clear why critics – both in the United States and abroad – question his role and influence,” the article notes.

Carlson’s career

Carlson rose to prominence in the early 2000s as co-host of CNN’s “Crossfire,” later appearing on MSNBC, and then gaining widespread recognition for his Fox News program.

Later, in 2016, he launched “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” which became one of the most popular news programs on cable television.

Notably, Carlson often calls the mainstream media extremely deceptive. The outlet reported that in a video announcing his independent program, he claimed that “the news you consume is a lie.” He also accused journalists of deliberately manipulating their audiences.

“This worldview has determined his coverage of events in Ukraine – often in a manner reminiscent of Russian propaganda,” the publication believes.

It is noted that even before the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, the journalist accused the Biden administration of pushing Ukraine into war, calling Kyiv a “satellite of the State Department.”

In addition, after February 24, 2022, Carlson continued to criticize US support for Ukraine, arguing that Washington should prioritize negotiations with Moscow.

In 2024, the journalist traveled to Moscow to interview Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Carlson presented the interview as a rare opportunity, claiming that Western journalists had not tried to speak with Putin. However, this claim was disputed by numerous reporters who had also tried to arrange an interview but were refused.

“This visit was widely covered in Russian state media and on pro-military channels,” the publication says.

It is emphasized that Russian propaganda media became so enamored with Carlson that after the interview they even began translating and broadcasting his program on state television.

The journalist claims that he does not receive any remuneration for this. Moreover, according to him, the programs are broadcast in Russia “without legal permission.”

The article notes that during the interview with Putin, Carlson gave the Russian president the opportunity to continuously express his views, including justifying Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine and criticizing Western support for Kyiv.

US war against Iran: latest news

UNIAN previously reported that US President Donald Trump claims that the US is negotiating with Iran. According to the head of the White House, Iran wants to make a deal. As Trump noted, Tehran fired 100 missiles at the aircraft carrier “Abraham Lincoln”, and each of them was shot down over the sea.

Therefore, the US President considers the US military operation against Iran “very successful”. Trump stressed that Iran agreed that it would never have nuclear weapons. The US President also confidently stated that they won this war.

We also wrote that US President Donald Trump does not rule out the possibility of opening the Strait of Hormuz in the near future, “if everything goes according to plan.” According to Trump, the US and Iran could jointly control the strait. The head of the White House confirmed that the US would postpone strikes on Iran’s energy infrastructure after what he called “productive talks” with this country.

He shared that special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner held talks with a “high-ranking person” from Iran on the evening of March 22, but this is not Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.
