Chinese suppliers are looking for alternative routes.
China has sharply reduced the volume of transit through Russia. Suppliers have lost confidence in the route due to mass confiscations of cargo by Russian customs officials.

“We have been hesitant to send goods by rail since November,” The Moscow Time quotes Andrew Jiang, CEO of Shanghai-based Air Sea Transport, as saying .
It is noted that Russia tightened control over transit back in October 2024. Mechanical and electronic products that can be used for military purposes came under special control. At the same time, the confiscated goods remained in Russia due to sanctions.
As a result, this paralyzed the logistics flow from the Russian Federation to Europe, through which up to 80 thousand containers were transported monthly.
It is worth noting that China and Kazakhstan have opened a new railway route bypassing Russia, which will take trains to Europe via Turkmenistan, Iran and Turkey. In addition, work is underway on alternative routes through Central Asia and the Caspian Sea.
Russia imposes duties on cars from China
Russia is trying to curb the flow of Chinese car imports, a move that will hit Chinese manufacturers and traders who increasingly rely on the Russian market.
China’s car exports to Russia in 2024 were seven times higher than in 2022, as sanctions over the war in Ukraine cut the country off from Western brands. Automakers in China have also turned to the Russian market after anti-dumping measures hampered sales in the US, EU, Canada, Turkey and Brazil.
