China, Iran and North Korea aren’t just enablers in Russia’s war on Ukraine – they’re active supporters of Russia.
China has become Moscow’s economic lifeline. Its exports of machine tools, microchips and dual-use technology replace what Western sanctions are cutting off. That trade keeps Russia’s war machine running and gives Putin the means and misplaced confidence to keep fighting.
North Korea supplies thousands of artillery shells and rockets. Iran’s Shahed drones are now being produced under licence in Russia, allowing Moscow to strike Ukrainian cities and power grids at scale. Both are paid back in oil, cash, and supposed military expertise.
Russia expected a quick victory. It didn’t count on Ukraine’s resistance, or on the resolve of the Ukrainian people and the democracies determined to help them endure.
Ukraine isn’t just fighting Russian troops; it’s facing down a wider alliance attempting to prove that free democracies cannot stand together.
They’ve misjudged Ukraine. Its people, its strength, its unity, and its resolve to defend its free and sovereign future. Ukraine won’t lose – it will keep fighting until it wins.
Ukraine will endure, and it will shape its future on its own terms.

Europe can no longer wait for others to secure its freedom. Ukraine’s fight is a big wake up call, and the responsibility is ours.
The US has decided it won’t send Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine. That’s Trump’s choice, but it leaves a clear gap that Europe can no longer ignore. If we truly believe in Ukraine’s fight, and in the idea of a free and secure Europe, then we must take responsibility too.
I share the frustration and anger of many Ukrainians and of the countless voices across Europe who have said repeatedly that leaving it for others to act is no longer acceptable. Every day we delay increases the cost, for Ukraine and for all of us in Europe.
The UK’s Storm Shadow, France’s SCALP, and Germany’s Taurus are proven European systems that could make a real difference. What we lack is political will. Each time we hesitate, we undermine both our credibility and our determination to act.
For decades, Europe has lived under an American safety net. It brought peace and stability, but it also created a habit of reliance and deferral. That chapter is over. This is our Europe, these are our borders, it is our future, and it is up to us to protect them. It must not always fall to others to safeguard our security and freedom.
Fine words from European leaders are no longer enough. Putin only backs down when faced with strength and resolve, and Europe has plenty of both.
Europe needs to be far more than just an observer of its own fate. It’s time to act decisively, together, and for ourselves.
Ukraine has shown extraordinary courage. Now it is time for Europe to show the same.

“Fine words from European leaders are no longer enough. Putin only backs down when faced with strength and resolve, and Europe has plenty of both.”
The sad fact is that some European countries would sacrifice Ukraine to save their own miserable skins. Apart from the UK and a few other countries, the rest are good at expelling hot air and having countless meetings that produce nothing.
Yes I have to hand it to Sir Kier. He’s not my politics by a long way, but he’s carried on where the Tories left off and has built a good relationship of trust with Zel.
I was quite touched yesterday when Zel said :
“Sir Kier, thank you for being with us.”
His reply was : “always.”
Good to know, scradge.
