Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that some countries have put their own interests above the general interests of the world community.
He said this at a meeting with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair in Beijing, Censor.NET reports , citing the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
“Today, the world has entered a period of significant change, unseen in centuries, but some major countries have betrayed their international responsibilities and put their own interests above the general interests of the world community,” he noted, likely alluding to the United States.
According to Wang Yi, as permanent members of the UN Security Council and leading world powers, China and the UK should fulfill their international obligations, demonstrate their responsibility, and make efforts for world peace and development.
Blair noted that the world today faces many challenges and requires increased coordination and a joint response.
“Isolating China is doomed to failure. The world needs to better understand China and cooperate with China,” he said.
The Foreign Ministry added that Wang Yi and Blair exchanged views on the Iran-Israel conflict and the “Ukrainian crisis.”
