She is betting on an alliance with nuclear countries.
Canadian prime ministerial candidate Chrystia Freeland says her country should deepen ties with nuclear-armed Britain and France.

As reported by The Guardian , at the final Liberal Party leaders’ debate, she said that US President Donald Trump was clearly threatening Canada’s sovereignty with his “51st state” campaign. Because of this, she plans to build closer partnerships with European NATO allies:
“I am sure that France and the UK, which have nuclear weapons, will be among them. I would urgently work with these partners to build closer security relationships… at a time when the United States may pose a threat.”
As is known, the new Prime Minister of Canada will be elected after the election of the leader of the Liberal Party, which is scheduled for March 9, 2025. After that, the current Prime Minister Justin Trudeau plans to resign. In addition to Freeland, the former head of the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England Mark Carney and MP Karina Gould are also vying for this position.
