The Canadian province also refused the services of Elon Musk’s company.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford said his province is retaliating against the U.S. president’s tariffs on Canada by banning American companies from local procurement and “terminating” its agreement with Elon Musk’s Starlink to provide high-speed internet.
“We’re terminating Ontario’s contract with Starlink. It’s over. It’s gone,” CNN quotes Ford as saying .

In November, the province said SpaceX was set to offer its Starlink satellite internet service to about 15,000 homes and businesses.
In addition, Doug Ford threatened to impose a 25% surcharge on the electricity his province supplies to the United States unless Trump reverses his decision on tariffs:
“We will not hesitate to cut off their power, too. We must make sure America feels the pain.”
The Ontario Premier also added that such measures would primarily harm those states that support Donald Trump.
In addition, Ford said, the Ontario Liquor Control Board is removing American products from store shelves.
US Tariffs Against Canada
Donald Trump has imposed tariffs on goods from Canada. From March 4, 2025, imports will be taxed at 25%, and Canadian energy products will be taxed at 10%.
In response to the move, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that Ottawa would impose a 25% tariff on $155 billion worth of American goods.
Trump later made more threats against Canada, calling Trudeau “the governor” and saying that “when he imposes tariffs on the United States, our tariffs will immediately increase by the same amount.”
