The BRICS group will generate most of the world’s economic growth in the coming years, rather than other developed Western countries, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin told officials and businessmen at a BRICS business forum in Moscow, Reuters reports .

“The countries that are part of our association are, in essence, the engines of global economic growth. In the foreseeable future, BRICS will generate the bulk of the world’s GDP growth. The economic growth of BRICS members will depend less and less on external influence or interference. This is, in essence, economic sovereignty,” he emphasized.

According to the dictator, 30 countries of the world are interested in cooperation with BRICS, so at the summit next week they will consider possible options for the future expansion of the group.

“The doors are open, we are not hindering anyone,” Putin added.

The Russian President noted that Russia’s financial initiatives provide for the widespread use of national currencies, but talk of creating a single currency for BRICS is “premature.”

Putin also called on the New Development Bank, the only functioning BRICS multilateral development institution, to invest in technology and infrastructure in the Global South.

“As a development institution, the bank already serves as an alternative to many Western financial mechanisms, and we will naturally continue to develop it,” the dictator noted.
