Since the start of the full-scale war, the EU has provided Ukraine with about 170 billion euros.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that Europe will allocate 6 billion euros for drones for Ukraine under the ERA Loans program, financed from frozen Russian assets. As an UNIAN correspondent reports, she announced this during her speech to the European Parliament.

“I can announce that Europe will allocate 6 billion euros from the ERA loan and enter into an alliance with Ukraine in the field of unmanned aerial vehicles. Ukraine has ingenuity. Now it needs scale. And together we can ensure that Ukraine maintains its advantage and Europe strengthens its,” the head of the European Commission said.

According to her, Russia must pay for this war.

“We urgently need to work on a new solution to finance Ukraine’s military response and efforts based on frozen Russian assets. With the help of cash balances linked to Russian assets, we can provide Ukraine with a reparations loan. The assets themselves will not be affected, and the risk will have to be borne collectively. Ukraine will only repay the loan after Russia pays reparations,” von der Leyen explained.

She recalled that before the full-scale war with Russia, Ukraine had practically no drones, while today they account for two-thirds of all Russian equipment losses. At the same time, Russia is quickly catching up with Ukraine, using the advantages that its developed military industry gives it.

“We will propose a new program. We call it Qualitative Military Edge (qualitative military advantage, – UNIAN). It will support investments in the potential of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” said the President of the European Commission.

In addition, the President of the European Commission emphasized that it is necessary to increase sanctions pressure on Russia.

“We need additional sanctions. We are currently working on the 19th package in cooperation with partners. We are particularly focused on accelerating the transition away from Russian fossil fuels. We are paying attention to the shadow fleet and third countries. At the same time, we need additional support for Ukraine,” she said.
