The infamous Guantanamo base does not have the capacity to accommodate such a large number of people, which could create a new humanitarian and political crisis.

The United States is planning to transfer thousands of illegal immigrants to a controversial base in Cuba without notifying their governments. The infamous Guantanamo Bay detention camp is under investigation, The Washington Post reports.
This concerns at least 9,000 people — in particular, citizens of Ukraine, Great Britain, France, Italy, Germany, Lithuania, Poland and other countries, including Haiti.
According to WP sources among American officials, Washington does not plan to notify the governments of allied states about the transfer of their citizens to the territory of a military base associated with ill-treatment and long-term detention without trial after September 11, 2001.
Thousands of migrants are already being screened to determine their suitability for transport. The Guantanamo Bay detention facility currently lacks the capacity to accommodate such a large number of people, which could create a new humanitarian and political crisis.
According to the publication, this is the first such decision after the Trump administration has already sent several hundred people to Guantanamo since the beginning of 2025. The plan is causing concern among human rights activists and diplomatic circles.
