Aid to Ukraine was approved by the committee as part of the US national defense bill for fiscal year 2026.

The US Senate Armed Services Committee has approved $500 million in security assistance for Ukraine as part of the US national defense bill for fiscal year 2026, Reuters reports .

The bill is an annual document that sets the funding and authority levels for the U.S. military. It ensures that the U.S. military has the resources it needs to carry out its missions, and it is being closely watched by weapons manufacturers, including Lockheed Martin and Boeing.

According to Reuters, the bill was approved by the committee on July 9, 2025, by an overwhelming majority of 26 votes to 1. It contains provisions to extend the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative until 2028 and increase its funding to $500 million compared to $300 million planned for 2025.

The bill also blocked a controversial request by US President Donald Trump in June to retire the US Air Force’s A-10 fleet, which would have required the number of A-10s to remain at 103 by 2026, ensuring the aircraft’s continued service.Read also:

The bill will move through Congress in the coming months. In addition to Ukraine, it also addresses global security challenges, including threats from China, Iran, and North Korea.

In addition, the bill emphasizes the need for technological development in areas such as artificial intelligence, unmanned technologies, and hypersonic weapons to maintain US military superiority.

  1. “The bill will move through Congress in the coming months.”

It will if Mike Johnson allows it.

      • There is still $3.8 billion left from the $60 billion the Biden admin donated. It could be used to build air defences for Ukraine. This money would never leave the US.

        • Sure it will. And Congress is already budgeting money for Ukraine through the next three years. I believe things will accelerate with the new program for NATO members to budget 5 percent for defense so all that money will pour into western weapons like Patriots and Storm shadows….and hopefully a boatload of F16s
